 The 1898 year is considered as the date of giving rise of the Foreign Literature Department of the City Library after receing 319 volumes of the seventy French classical writers sent by A. P. Chekhov to the city of Taganrog from Nice in 1898.

Today there are books in 65 foreign languages of the world in the holdings of the Foreign Literature Department of the A. P. Chekhov CCPL. 

At the Reading Hall of the Department 

·           You will find the World-Wide Encyclopaedias by Brockhaus, Collierand the American Academy, authentic magazines The Economist and National Geographic popular all over the world, newspapers The Moscow News in English.

·         Teachers of foreign languages can familiarize with the up-to-date methods of teaching in the ma-gazinesThe Foreign Languages at School, The Different Methods of Foreign Languages Teaching, The 1st of September. One can getvaluable recommendations on training schoolchildren to pass the uniform state exams (USE) on the pages of the newspapers The English, The Deutsch, La Langue Française. The magazines The Vitamin.de, The School English, The Speak out and The Francitéwill be interesting to young people.

·           For translators and interpriters we have got a wide variety of dictionaries on different branch of knowledge: aviation, biology, linguistics, medicine, politics, phraseology, economics,jurisprudence and many others.

·           One can learn foreign languages by means of easy and effective computer programmes and listen to audibooks, use the Internet and e-mail for educational attainments free of charge. 

If you have your borrower's card, we’ll lend you:

 

·           literarure (adapted and in the original) of classical writers and foreign authors of present-day;

 

·           textbooks on all the divisions of science of foreign languages;

the magazines The FoooreignLiteratue in Russian will be offerred to amateurs of foreign authors’ works who don’t know foreign languages. An electronic library card can be given you at the Department.
